Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace has secured a $118 million contract to supply remote weapon turrets for the US Marine Corps’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle 30 (ACV-30) program. This deal formalizes a previous agreement for full-rate production of 101 Protector RT20 remote turret systems equipped with medium-caliber cannons.
The contract includes not only turret production but also fielding, testing, spare parts, and technical support. If all contract options are executed, the total value could reach up to $271.5 million. Production will be split between facilities in Norway and Pennsylvania, with project completion expected by September 2027.
This turret procurement is part of a broader modernization initiative by the US Department of Defense aimed at replacing outdated amphibious vehicles dating back to the 1970s. The ACV-30 variant, outfitted with a 30mm cannon, officially entered full-rate production in April 2025.
Kongsberg’s Protector RT20 turret integrates advanced fire control systems and sensors. It supports various weapon systems including a coaxial 7.62mm gun, programmable ammunition, and optional anti-tank missiles. The turret is designed for both single and dual-operator control and features hunter-killer capabilities, under-armor reloading, and a 3,000-meter engagement range.
