Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has awarded Raytheon a contract to supply SeaRAM ship self-defense systems for Australia’s upgraded Mogami-class frigates under the Sea3000 General Purpose Frigate program. The agreement includes SeaRAM launchers, blast test vehicles, and technical support for the first three vessels, with deliveries expected from 2028 onward. SeaRAM combines the Phalanx close-in weapon system’s sensors with the Rolling Airframe Missile to provide autonomous defense against cruise missiles, drones, helicopters, and other airborne threats. Designed as a plug-and-play upgrade, the system retains the footprint and power requirements of the Phalanx platform while significantly increasing interception range and flexibility. The program supports Australia’s broader naval modernization strategy as it replaces its aging Anzac-class frigates.
