Germany is preparing to deploy a Patriot missile defense battery to Turkey as part of a NATO rotational mission aimed at strengthening regional air defense capabilities. Around 150 German soldiers from Husum will accompany the Patriot system during the deployment scheduled from late June through September. The deployment will replace a US Patriot unit that had been stationed in Turkey following heightened tensions in the Middle East after the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Patriot systems are designed to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hostile aircraft, making them one of NATO’s most critical air defense assets. Germany previously deployed similar systems to Turkey between 2013 and 2015 to secure NATO airspace near Syria. The current mission highlights NATO’s continued commitment to collective defense and regional security cooperation.
