NVL Group has begun building the German Navy’s new Type 424 reconnaissance ship by cutting the first steel plate, signifying the project’s official start. Under a revised 2023 contract, three Type 424 vessels will be built to replace older Type 423 models, with Lürssen Werft as a partner. These ships, around 132 meters long, will focus on electronic and signals intelligence. The first ship is due by 2029, followed by others in 2030 and 2031. A training and reference center will also be delivered by 2027.
