To support the modernization of its polar cutter fleet, the US Coast Guard has acquired a temporary icebreaker, the MV Aiviq. Delivered by Offshore Service Vessels, the ship will maintain Arctic operations until the arrival of the new Polar Security Cutters expected in the 2030s. The $125 million contract for this commercially available vessel was awarded in November to the Louisiana-based company.
