British firm MSubs has officially launched the UK Royal Navy’s prototype Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (XLAUV) in Plymouth, as part of the Cetus Project. Aimed at enhancing the UK’s underwater warfare capabilities, the uncrewed submarine will be tasked with securing critical national infrastructure and conducting undersea surveillance missions across British waters.
