The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has officially inducted the JS Raigei, its fourth Taigei-class diesel-electric submarine, into service. Constructed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the submarine follows the commissioning of the class’s lead vessel, JS Taigei, in 2022. Japan plans to build a total of eight submarines in this class, all expected to be operational by the 2030s.
