ST Engineering is advancing plans for Singapore’s next generation of ground combat capability with the development of a new infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) designed to meet emerging battlefield requirements. The platform is intended to enhance the Singapore Armed Forces’ ability to operate in complex, multi-domain environments where digital connectivity and survivability are increasingly critical.

The new IFV will be based on ST Engineering’s Terrex s5 8×8 armored vehicle, expanding the company’s family of wheeled combat platforms. According to the company, the vehicle will integrate digitalized systems to improve situational awareness, along with advanced vehicle electronics and upgraded firepower options. A cyber-secure Generic Vehicle Architecture will also be incorporated to protect onboard systems against modern cyber threats.

The Terrex s5 is powered by a hybrid electric propulsion system, enabling silent movement to reduce acoustic and thermal signatures during operations. Designed with fewer moving components than older platforms, the vehicle is expected to offer improved reliability, longer service life, and simplified maintenance. It can transport up to 12 soldiers, including two primary operators equipped with a multi-mission control station that supports automated target detection, drone monitoring, and a 360-degree driving system with pre-programmed routes.

Measuring approximately 8.5 meters in length and 3 meters in width, the vehicle stands 2.7 meters tall in its unarmed configuration and can carry a mission payload of up to 13,000 kilograms. ST Engineering plans to begin deliveries of the next-generation IFV in 2028, positioning the Terrex s5 as a key element of its integrated defense solutions portfolio for future ground warfare.
