South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has signed multiple cooperation agreements with Canadian companies and academic institutions to support the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). The project, first proposed in 2021, aims to replace the Royal Canadian Navy’s aging Victoria-class submarines with as many as 12 new submarines beginning in 2035. The partnerships include five industry teaming agreements and three memoranda of understanding designed to strengthen innovation, manufacturing capabilities, and workforce development in Canada. Each agreement links Hanwha Ocean with Canadian firms and international technology partners to collaborate on advanced submarine technologies. These include sonar systems, underwater warfare solutions, power distribution networks, and integrated platform management technologies.
