NATO has chosen Saab’s GlobalEye airborne surveillance aircraft as the alliance’s next-generation airborne early warning and control solution, replacing legacy systems with a modern multi-domain intelligence platform. Combining the Erieye Extended Range radar with advanced electronic surveillance systems, command-and-control capabilities, and integrated mission management software, GlobalEye provides persistent monitoring across air, maritime, and land environments. Its ability to detect stealth aircraft, unmanned systems, ballistic missiles, and hypersonic threats while operating within contested electromagnetic environments significantly enhances alliance situational awareness. The acquisition forms part of NATO’s broader modernization strategy focused on network-enabled operations, improved intelligence sharing, and integrated command structures. The program will also strengthen Sweden’s aerospace industry by supporting high-technology manufacturing, engineering, software development, logistics, and long-term sustainment activities throughout the aircraft’s operational lifecycle.
