Bharat Forge Limited has entered a new phase of naval technology development after receiving a Ministry of Defence contract for the production of 12 indigenous 1.25 MW Marine Gas Turbine Generators. The programme is aimed at enhancing the auxiliary electrical power capacity of Kolkata-class destroyers while improving long-term supportability of critical onboard systems. These generators are designed to replace older power-generation arrangements with a more efficient and compact gas turbine-based solution. The increased electrical output will support essential naval functions including radar operation, underwater sensors, communication networks, electronic warfare equipment, and combat management systems. The higher power availability also creates additional capacity for future integration of advanced technologies such as directed energy weapons, high-powered sensors, and next-generation defence systems. The project represents a major industrial milestone by expanding India’s domestic capabilities in marine turbine technology and strengthening the foundation for future naval engineering programmes.
