Malaysia to Add 263 Tactical Vehicles to Army Fleet Malaysia is set to procure 263 military vehicles worth 164.91 million ringgit ($40.8 million) as part of efforts to strengthen tactical mobility and reconnaissance capabilities within the Army.The acquisition comprises 163 Tedung (Cobra) 4×4 weapon carriers and 100 Kala (Scorpion) high-mobility reconnaissance vehicles.Defence Minister Khaled Nordin formally introduced the platforms during a ceremony attended by industry partner High Point Worldwide, based in Wangsa Maju.The company also publicly displayed the final green-painted Army configurations of the vehicles for the first time.Procurement DetailsKuala Lumpur awarded the acquisition through two separate contracts.The first contract, worth 92.91 million ringgit ($23 million), covers 80 Cobra vehicles configured as automatic grenade-launcher carriers and 83 units equipped for heavy machine-gun operations.The Cobra is derived from the Brazilian Agrale Marruá AM250 double-cab transport and utility vehicle. It uses a 170-horsepower Cummins engine and a full-time 4×4 drivetrain.According to the Malaysian government, the vehicle can be adapted for additional missions, including command, communications/radio, and cannon-towing roles.The second contract is valued at 72 million ringgit ($17.8 million) and covers the Scorpion reconnaissance platform. It uses a buggy-style chassis designed specifically for infantry reconnaissance missions.Although the source vehicle for the Scorpion has not been identified, its configuration includes a Rotax 900cc ACEI turbocharged engine capable of producing up to 200 horsepower. The vehicle can carry four fully equipped soldiers and is designed to maneuver over difficult terrain.
