L3Harris has completed inspections of the first Royal Moroccan Air Force C-130 aircraft as part of a long-term modernization effort designed to extend the service life of Morocco’s Hercules transport fleet.The aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance and repair work at the company’s facility in Waco, Texas. The modernization activity includes installation of a new standby instrument and a digital engine display, along with other maintenance improvements.A second Moroccan C-130 is scheduled to enter the modernization program during the fall, while a third aircraft is expected to begin work later this year. The third aircraft will receive a more extensive avionics upgrade, including conversion to a fully digital cockpit.According to L3Harris, the upgrades are intended to improve aircraft availability and operational reliability while enabling Morocco to retain its existing C-130 fleet instead of replacing the aircraft with new transports.Morocco awarded L3Harris a multi-year modernization contract in July 2025. Under the agreement, the company is responsible for upgrading several aircraft and providing a range of sustainment services. These include avionics modifications, depot-level maintenance, engine overhauls and other technical support activities.The overall modernization program is scheduled to continue through 2029, providing a long-term pathway for maintaining Morocco’s C-130 fleet.The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine military transport aircraft widely used for tactical airlift operations. Its ability to operate from relatively short and austere airfields makes it suitable for transporting troops, equipment and cargo in challenging environments. The aircraft is also used for specialized missions.L3Harris has more than 40 years of experience supporting C-130 aircraft. The company has worked with C-130 fleets operated by the US Air Force, US Coast Guard and various international customers.For the US Air Force, L3Harris serves as the prime contractor for the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program Increment 2. The company has also successfully integrated the Collins APS-7000 digital autopilot into a C-130H, which it describes as the first successful installation of that system on the aircraft.
