Cochin Shipyard Limited has acquired a 23% stake in Conoship International Holding B.V., a Netherlands-based company specializing in ship design and engineering. The investment is valued at €2.30 million, or approximately ₹25.10 crore. The Share Purchase Agreement and related Shareholders’ and Cooperation Agreement were signed with Conoship’s shareholders on September 24, 2026. CSL’s Board had approved the proposed investment earlier in January, while the transaction subsequently received approval from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management. Completion is expected within two months of signing. The minority investment is intended to provide CSL with access to Conoship’s ship-design capabilities and strengthen its position in European coastal and short-sea shipping markets. These sectors are increasingly focused on efficient vessels with lower emissions and designs suited to frequent movement between nearby ports. The collaboration gives CSL an opportunity to combine its shipbuilding capabilities with European design expertise and market knowledge. CSL and Conoship are expected to jointly examine emerging maritime technologies, particularly alternative-fuel solutions for short-sea vessels. Their cooperation will also cover coastal shipping and inland-waterway vessels, as well as opportunities across the wider marine, shipping and offshore sectors. The partnership is therefore structured as more than a passive equity investment. It combines ownership with cooperation in engineering, ship design, technology development and market opportunities. For CSL, the agreement provides a pathway toward greater international engagement and access to specialized design capabilities, particularly for vessels intended to meet future efficiency and emissions requirements.
