QinetiQ has secured a five-year contract extension from the UK Ministry of Defence to continue delivering mission-critical engineering and technical support for the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon fleet. Valued at £205 million ($275 million), the agreement is aimed at sustaining frontline aircraft performance while improving operational readiness and pilot safety.
The contract focuses on advanced engineering services designed to reduce both the time and cost required to return Typhoon aircraft to service. QinetiQ will provide specialist support to ensure aircraft availability while maintaining high safety and performance standards across the fleet. In addition to RAF operations, the work also supports export customers operating the Typhoon platform.
A key element of the extension is QinetiQ’s increased use of digital engineering tools and artificial intelligence. The company announced plans to invest £10 million ($13 million) to expand AI-enabled sustainment solutions, building on existing partnerships with UK-based technology firms. These capabilities are expected to accelerate engineering workflows and improve long-term fleet reliability.
The work will be delivered through the Aurora Engineering Delivery Partnership, a QinetiQ-led consortium that includes Atkins, BMT, Frazer-Nash, KBR, and more than 380 specialist companies supporting the Ministry of Defence. The Typhoon remains the RAF’s primary air-defence fighter and will continue to serve as a core combat asset into the 2040s, operating alongside the UK’s F-35 Lightning II fleet.
