The US Navy has awarded a $283 million contract to HII Ingalls Shipbuilding to begin lead yard support work for the next-generation FF(X) frigate. The contract includes early design activities, material procurement, and pre-construction planning to streamline the transition to full production. The FF(X) frigate is intended to be a smaller, agile combatant capable of operating alongside larger warships. This initiative supports the modernization of the US Navy’s surface fleet and enhances operational flexibility across missions.
