Raytheon is expanding production of the FIM-92 Stinger missile through a distributed European manufacturing strategy designed to strengthen NATO’s short-range air defense capabilities. The program introduces a collaborative industrial model in which German defense company Diehl Defence will manufacture advanced guidance components while additional missile assemblies are produced by suppliers across Europe before final integration in the Netherlands. This approach improves production resilience, increases manufacturing capacity, and reduces logistical dependence on overseas facilities. The Stinger remains a highly effective man-portable air defense system capable of countering helicopters, low-flying aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles. Rising operational demand has reinforced the importance of expanding production while ensuring European allies maintain sufficient inventories to address future air defense requirements and emerging battlefield threats.
