The US Navy has officially inducted its 14th Freedom-class littoral combat ship, USS Nantucket (LCS 27), during a ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts. This follows successful acceptance trials in 2022 and its delivery in July 2024. Constructed by Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri Marinette Marine starting in 2017, the ship is part of the US military’s broader warship modernization initiative. The new USS Nantucket is the third vessel to carry the name, following predecessors from the Civil War era and the early 20th century.
