Charles River Analytics has received a $1 million US Navy contract to create an AI-based system for identifying enemy submarines using magnetic field data. The system, called MAGNETO (Guidance for Naval Enhancement of Tactical Operations), will focus on detecting how submarines disturb Earth’s magnetic field—a method differing from traditional sonar-based techniques. The company notes that magnetic detection alone is not sufficient and requires enhanced processing capabilities.
