Norway has awarded Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace a contract worth approximately 400 million Norwegian krone to upgrade the combat management systems of the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Skjold-class fast attack vessels. This program forms part of a long-term modernization initiative aimed at extending service life, improving reliability, and increasing operational readiness. The upgrades will introduce enhanced fire-control radars and advanced electro-optical sensors across four vessels, significantly strengthening the detection, tracking, and engagement of small, fast-moving, and low-signature targets such as drones and unmanned craft. These enhancements also ensure precise fire control for the vessels’ 76mm naval guns, improving accuracy and combat survivability in demanding maritime environments. Installation work will commence immediately, with the first upgraded vessel expected to enter service in 2026.
