Japan has begun preparing for the deployment of its upgraded Type-12 surface-to-ship missiles after launcher vehicles arrived at Camp Kengun in Kumamoto Prefecture. The deployment is part of Japan’s strategy to strengthen its stand-off defense capabilities in the region, particularly in response to tensions involving China and Taiwan. The upgraded Type-12 missile, developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, originally had a range of around 200 kilometers but has been improved to reach approximately 1,000 kilometers. The truck-mounted launcher carries six missiles and is designed to target enemy ships and land-based threats.
