The United States Navy has awarded General Dynamics Mission Systems a $55-million contract to upgrade the AN/BYG-1 submarine combat control system. This system plays a critical role in undersea warfare by integrating sensors, weapons, and navigation into a unified digital architecture for real-time decision-making. The upgrade focuses on improving system reliability, interoperability, and readiness for future technological enhancements. Scheduled for completion by 2027, the modernization aligns with broader naval efforts, including contracts awarded to Lockheed Martin and L3Harris Technologies, as well as industry demonstrations by Ultra Maritime. Together, these initiatives strengthen submarine detection, imaging, and autonomous deployment capabilities in complex maritime environments.
