The US Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a $708.9 million contract for the production of GBU-53B StormBreaker precision-guided bombs. The agreement includes not only the munitions but also supporting equipment such as containers, test systems, and spare components. Deliveries are scheduled for multiple allied nations, reflecting the weapon’s growing global demand. Designed to engage both stationary and moving targets, the StormBreaker integrates GPS, inertial navigation, and data-link systems for high accuracy. Its compact size allows aircraft to carry more munitions while minimizing collateral damage. Currently deployed on the F-15E, integration efforts are underway for platforms like the F-35 and F/A-18, enhancing operational flexibility.
