The United States has approved a potential sale of AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles to South Korea, further strengthening the country’s air-defense and air-superiority capabilities. The beyond-visual-range missile is designed to engage aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones in all weather conditions while maintaining interoperability with allied air forces. Compatible with South Korea’s advanced fighter fleet, including F-35A and F-15K aircraft, the acquisition will enhance operational readiness and regional deterrence. The deal also reinforces defense cooperation between Washington and Seoul amid evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
