India’s indigenous Project Kusha continues to advance as one of the country’s most ambitious long-range air defense initiatives, with recent developmental testing demonstrating encouraging interceptor performance beyond initial design expectations. Developed by DRDO in partnership with domestic industry, the program aims to establish a multi-layered missile defense architecture capable of engaging fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, unmanned systems, and other high-speed aerial threats across extended engagement envelopes. The interceptor integrates advanced propulsion technologies, precision guidance algorithms, and high-performance control systems to improve interception accuracy under demanding operational conditions. Industry participation has strengthened indigenous production of critical components such as rocket motors, propellants, and missile subsystems, reducing dependence on imported technologies. Future testing will continue validating longer-range variants while supporting gradual transition toward operational deployment across India’s integrated air defense network.
