French defense firms MBDA and Safran have unveiled THUNDART, a new 150-kilometer (93-mile) guided rocket system designed to replace France’s aging Lance-Roquette Unitaire (LRU) launchers. Presented as part of France’s artillery modernization strategy, THUNDART is positioned as a ready-to-test weapon, not merely a conceptual project. The collaboration blends MBDA’s expertise in missile design and mass production with Safran’s advanced guidance systems, the latter derived from the AASM precision-guided bomb family.
