Switzerland is reconsidering its fighter aircraft purchase after rising costs pushed the government to plan buying about 30 F-35A jets instead of the originally approved 36. The aircraft were selected in 2021 to replace the country’s aging fighter fleet. Officials said additional costs linked to inflation and production expenses would have raised the overall program price significantly. The government is also reviewing broader defense measures, including strengthening air defense capabilities and preparing for hybrid security threats in Europe.
