NATO’s Airborne Early Warning and Control System aircraft recently completed its first operational mission in Finnish airspace. The flight supported surveillance and command operations along NATO’s northern region and eastern flank. During the exercise, eight Finnish F/A-18 fighter jets participated in a training scenario guided by the AWACS aircraft. The mission was coordinated by Joint Force Command Norfolk and directed by NATO Allied Air Command. The aircraft acted as an airborne command center, monitoring the exercise and managing the tactical air situation in real time.
