Saab has indicated its willingness to expand defense cooperation with Portugal by proposing local production of components for the Gripen fighter jet if the country decides to replace its current F-16 aircraft. The company believes Portuguese aerospace firm OGMA could manufacture parts for the aircraft, helping retain jobs and investment within Portugal. Saab highlighted its past collaborations with companies in the UK, Ukraine, and Poland as examples of how it partners with local industries to strengthen defense manufacturing capabilities.
