GE Aerospace and Magellan Aerospace have agreed to explore the establishment of a Canadian maintenance, repair, and overhaul capability for the F414-GE-39E fighter engine, supporting future combat aircraft requirements if the Saab Gripen E is selected by Canada. The collaboration would transfer technical expertise, licensing, and sustainment capabilities to Magellan’s Ontario facilities, enabling comprehensive domestic engine support throughout the aircraft’s service life. Establishing local maintenance infrastructure would strengthen operational readiness, improve supply chain resilience, and reduce dependence on overseas sustainment services. The initiative would also create advanced aerospace employment opportunities while expanding Canada’s sovereign industrial capabilities in military aviation. By investing in domestic engine support, the partnership aims to reinforce long-term national defense readiness and support future aerospace technology development.
