Akash Missile Production Moves Into Advanced Phase Reports suggesting the end of India’s Akash missile production are inaccurate. While manufacturing of the original Akash variants is gradually declining as induction targets are achieved, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) are shifting production towards Advanced Akash and Akash-NG variants. Existing domestic and export orders are expected to keep production lines active until at least 2029–2030. Major support comes from Indian Army and Air Force contracts, alongside exports such as Armenia’s $700 million Akash-IS purchase. The Advanced Akash introduces an indigenous Ku-band active radar seeker and dual-pulse propulsion for improved engagement of modern aerial threats. Meanwhile, Akash-NG offers a lighter design, canisterised launch system, active RF seeker, and an engagement range of up to 80 km. BDL is also expanding manufacturing capacity through a new Telangana facility with eight assembly lines to meet future domestic and export demand.
