The US Air Force has disclosed the first image of its new AGM-181 Long-Range Standoff missile, a nuclear-capable weapon slated for use aboard the B-21 Raider and B-52 Stratofortress bombers.
Raytheon is currently developing the missile under a $2 billion contract awarded in 2021. The LRSO is designed to eventually replace the Cold War-era AGM-86B cruise missile.
According to 2022 estimates, the total cost of the program could surpass $16 billion, with an additional $7 billion for sustainment. Each missile has a projected unit cost of $14 million.
