Estonia has officially received its first IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense system from Diehl Defence, significantly enhancing national airspace protection capabilities. The system can engage aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles at ranges up to 40 kilometers and altitudes reaching 20 kilometers. Featuring multiple launchers, advanced radar systems, and a tactical command center, the highly mobile platform offers 360-degree coverage and simultaneous multi-target engagement. The acquisition forms part of Estonia’s largest-ever defense investment and supports broader European air defense cooperation through the European Sky Shield Initiative.
