Türkiye has reached another milestone in its indigenous aviation programme with the first HÜRJET aircraft intended for the Turkish Air Force completing its maiden flight on August 30.The flight took place on Victory Day, adding significance to the milestone as Türkiye marked the 104th anniversary of the national occasion.HÜRJET is being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries as a single-engine, tandem-seat advanced jet trainer. The aircraft is also being designed with light-combat capabilities, giving it potential utility beyond training missions.The successful first flight of the Turkish Air Force-bound aircraft represents progress toward eventual operational introduction. It follows the broader HÜRJET development effort aimed at providing Türkiye with an indigenous high-performance training platform.As an advanced jet trainer, HÜRJET is intended to bridge the gap between basic flight training and the operation of more sophisticated combat aircraft. Its tandem-seat configuration allows an instructor and trainee to operate together during training activities.The platform’s supersonic capability further distinguishes it from many conventional trainer aircraft.
