Turkey has successfully flown the first production-standard Hürjet advanced jet trainer, marking an important transition for the program from prototype development to serial manufacturing. The aircraft completed an 18-minute flight after undergoing final assembly, ground checks and pre-flight preparations.The production aircraft is separate from the two prototypes previously used for flight testing. The first Hürjet prototype made its maiden flight on April 25, 2023, while the second prototype took to the air in November 2024. Collectively, the two aircraft have completed approximately 340 test flights and accumulated around 260 flight hours.The latest testing forms part of the aircraft’s continued development and included demonstration activity with the Turkish Stars aerobatic team. The aircraft also conducted formation flying with the Anka-3 stealth unmanned aircraft prototype and participated in transonic and supersonic flight evaluations.Turkish Aerospace intends to increase production to approximately two Hürjet aircraft each month once serial manufacturing reaches full capacity. The Turkish Air Force is expected to receive its first aircraft by the end of 2026. The Turkish Stars aerobatic team is planned to receive the initial examples before deliveries expand to other Air Force units.Developed by Turkish Aerospace, the Hürjet is powered by a GE F404 afterburning turbofan. It can achieve a maximum speed of Mach 1.4, equivalent to approximately 1,729 kilometres per hour, and can operate at altitudes reaching 45,000 feet.The aircraft has a stated range of 1,060 nautical miles, or about 1,963 kilometres. It measures 14 metres in length and has a wingspan of 10 metres. Its maximum payload capacity is approximately 3,402 kilograms.Although primarily designed as a jet trainer, Hürjet is also being developed with a weapons-carrying capability. Planned weapons include Gökdoğan and Bozdoğan air-to-air missiles, the SOM cruise missile, the SARB-83 anti-concrete bomb and various precision-guidance kits.
