Battelle Secures Air Force Contract Worth Up to $111.4M for Airbase Resilience — Battelle has received a US Air Force research and development contract valued at up to $111.4 million over four years to develop and evaluate technologies that help airbases withstand disruptions and restore operations. The agreement includes a $51.6 million base period and supports the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Capability Requirements Branch, which focuses on airbase infrastructure and engineering requirements. Battelle will identify capability gaps and assess possible solutions, including prototypes and commercially available systems, while examining equipment requirements and changes to procedures or operational practices. Findings from the research and testing will help the Air Force determine which technologies are suitable for further development or operational deployment. The Columbus, Ohio-based nonprofit has also worked on biological threat detection, including a sprayable liquid unveiled in August that changes color when exposed to targeted hazardous substances. Separately, Battelle secured a Defense Threat Reduction Agency STEP 2.0 contract with a $52.9 million base period and a potential value of $93.3 million to address biological risks and strengthen biodefense and military readiness.
