At Base Ohakea, New Zealand’s Air Force has completed a capability enhancement initiative for its fleet of NH90 helicopters, aimed at improving mission readiness and interoperability with allied forces.
The upgrade includes key software enhancements and hardware changes, including more sophisticated friend-or-foe recognition tools for seamless joint operations. The aircraft now meet ADS-B OUT broadcasting requirements, improving tracking visibility and aligning with civilian flight regulations.
Flight automation has also seen significant improvement, giving the NH90s the ability to hover all the way to the ground, a boost from the previous hover limit of 5 meters.
