Belgium has awarded a 226.7-million-euro contract for the acquisition of Mistral very-short-range air defense missile systems to strengthen protection against emerging aerial threats, particularly drones. The missiles, produced by MBDA, are part of a multinational procurement initiative involving several European nations. Deliveries will occur over six years and may receive financial support from the European Union’s joint defense procurement program.
