Virginia-based V2X has received an $87 million contract to overhaul SUU-79 pylons used by the US Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft.
The SUU-79 is an important underwing component that allows F/A-18 aircraft to carry and release weapons and other external stores. V2X has supported the sustainment of Navy F/A-18 systems, including pylons, for decades.
Under the new contract, the company will repair, modernize and overhaul the pylons using advanced maintenance and lifecycle sustainment methods. The work is intended to extend the service life of the equipment and maintain the operational availability of frontline naval aviation assets.
All contract activities will be carried out in Indianapolis, Indiana. The programme is scheduled for completion by January 2030.
The award highlights the continuing importance of sustainment work for aircraft that remain central to US naval aviation. By modernizing existing components instead of replacing the entire system, the effort is designed to support the continued operation of Super Hornet and Growler aircraft while improving the longevity of their supporting equipment.
