Lockheed Martin and Portugal’s AED Cluster have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore industrial participation in the F-35 program, even though Portugal has not opted to procure the jet. The initiative reflects Lockheed’s push for broader European collaboration.
AED will act as a gateway for Portuguese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large manufacturers to enter segments of the F-35 production line, including composite structures, radar systems, and pilot training platforms.
The agreement enhances Portugal’s defense sector capabilities and may improve the case for future procurement by demonstrating the economic benefits of involvement in the high-profile international fighter project.
